Half Term Activities

Almost half-term already… how did that happen?! If you’re looking for ways to entertain the kids, we’ve pulled together a comprehensive listing of the holiday camps and activities that are going on in the area. The listing is divided into half-term activities that you generally do together as a family, and drop-off camps and workshops which range from a couple of hours to a full day. We’re still in the process of adding things as and when we hear about them, so if you know of any more please do get in touch and let us know. You can also find the family activities in our Event Calendar, as well as links to cinema and theatre listings.

 

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Ham House

21st to 29th October, 10.00am-6.00pm: Halloween Hocus Pocus & Terrible Terror Tours at Ham House. Take part in a children’s witch hunt, decorate a pumpkin biscuit, make your own witch’s hat, and listen to scary storytelling (10.00am-5.00pm). Plus discover spooky goings on with ghostly tours in the dark – find out about the resident ghost dog and visits from owners of the past (5.00-6.00pm). Normal admission charges apply plus £2.00 per trail (includes spooky reward) or £10.00 per ghost tour (includes goody bag).

Hampton Court Palace

21st to 29th October, 11.00am-4.00pm: The Great Palace Quest & Horrible Hampton at Hampton Court Palace in East Molesey. A fun interactive trail that takes families on a time-travelling voyage of discovery searching for the Palace Quest code word. The quest will involve participating in fun puzzles, games, crafts and meeting characters from the past. Plus do you have the stomach to pull rotten teeth, scour the ‘gong’ from the toilets, investigate the ‘Royal Wee’ or do the other dirty jobs that make the Palace run cleanly? Included in normal admission.

Hounslow Urban Farm

21st to 29th October, 10.00am-5.00pm: Half term fun at the The Hounslow Urban Farm, Faggs Road in Feltham. There’s always lots going on at the farm throughout the year, and half term is a great chance to visit! Children can enjoy animal encounters, feeding the animals, owl display, pig meet & greets, and indoor  bouncy castle and outdoor play area. Normal entry fees apply.

Kew Gardens

21st to 29th October, 11.00am-3.30pm: Artful Autumn at Kew Gardens. Take part in a family activity where you’ll discover the science behind why leaves change colour and fall from the trees during the colder months; learn how to become an expert tree spotter as you take a guided walk through the Natural Area; and choose from a selection of autumn-themed face painting designs. Normal admission charges apply plus £4.00 for face painting.

London Museum Of Water And Steam

21st to 29th October, 11.00am-4.00pm: SpOOkfest at the London Museum Of Water & Steam, Green Dragon Lane in Brentford. Discover the spooky secrets of the historic engine houses and maybe meet a few of their past occupants! Enjoy family fun with plenty of Halloween craft activities, a ride on the Ghost Train and a trip through the creepy wood. Normal entry fees apply. London Wetland Centre

21st to 29th October, 10.30am-4.30pm: Guess Who? at the London Wetland Centre, Queen Elizabeth’s Walk in Barnes. Use your ID skills and powers of observation to guess which wetland animal your partner has selected.  Pick up your game card on arrival and discover more about the animals that live at the Wetland Centre and then take a walk on the reserve to see them in real life. Plus take part in pond dipping, clay modelling, mini beast hotel building and earthworm surveys. Normal admission charges apply.

Museum Of Richmond

24th to 27th October, 10.00am-12.00pm: Poverty in Victorian Richmond Workshops at the Museum Of Richmond, Whittaker Avenue in Richmond. Discover how the poor in Victorian Richmond would make do and mend, and create your own replicas to take home. For ages 5-11yrs. £4.00 per child (adults free). Osterley Park

21st to 29th October, 11.00am-4.00pm: Halloween Pumpkin Festival at Osterley Park & House, Jersey Road in Isleworth. Halloween fun with pumpkin carving and spooky activities. Follow the autumnal trail, jump into the leaf pits or toast marshmallows on the open fire. Reach the end and have a go at carving a pumpkin. How spooky can you make it? Or enter the house and see if you can find all the mini-pumpkins hiding in the rooms. Normal admission charges apply.

Squires Garden Centre

23rd to 31st October, 10.00am-4.00pm: ‘Create & Grow’ spooky half-term at Squires Garden Centre, Sixth Cross Road in Twickenham. Children can paint a ceramic pumpkin or scary skull tealight holder to take home with a complimentary tealight. Place them on your windowsill to brighten up your room during those long spooky evenings (£5.50 each). They can also take part in a free monster pursuit and ghostly colouring competition to receive a sticker and the chance to win a prize. Fancy dress is welcome! Drop-in events, while stocks last.

Strawberry Hill House

23rd to 25th October, 10.30am-12.00pm (under 5s) / 1.00-3.00pm (over 5s): Craft workshops at Strawberry Hill House, Waldegrave Road in Twickenham. Workshops for under 5s include Halloween Pumpkins, Mummies, and Skeletons (£8.00 per child). Workshops for over 5s include Witch Costumes, Vampire Costumes, and Creepy Crawlie Spider Costumes (£10.00 per child). Places must be pre-booked.

The Toy Shop St Margarets

23rd – 28th October, 10.15-11.15am and 11.45am-12.45pm: Creative workshops at The Toy Shop, St Margarets Road in St Margarets. Children over 4yrs can join in with the half-term workshops including pumpkin pottery painting, devilish decoupage, creepy crawly cupcakes, witches and wizards hats, spooky sweet cups and sewing. Workshops are £10.00, except sewing on the 28th which is free. Watermans

21st to 27th October, various times. Half term entertainment at Watermans, High Street in Brentford. Two dance shows will get kids tapping their feet; there is the classic tale of The Three Little Pigs; plus circus acro-balance and breakdance workshops; and an interactive storytelling session. DROP OFF CAMPS

Boundless Dance

For children aged 5 to 16 years.

These ‘Musical Madness’ workshops take place at Teddington Methodist Church, Stanley Road in Teddington. The workshops are fun-filled and cater for all abilities. They focus on developing your child’s aptitude in the three main genres of performance – acting, dancing and singing – and are run by professional west-end practitioners.

The workshops take place between 24th – 26th October, from 10.00am-2.00pm. The daily cost is £20.00, or  it costs £37.50 for two days or £50.00 for all three days. There is a booking form online, or please call 07951 305935 or email info@boundlessdance.co.uk.

Camp England

For children from 3 to 15 years old.

These camps are held at NPL Tennis Club, Queens Road in Teddington and at Hampton School, Hanworth Road in Hampton. At Teddington, children can choose from tennis or multi-sports camps with lots of activities to choose from, so they get the chance to enjoy their favourite sports and challenge themselves with some new ones! At Hampton, there are tennis camps to give children the opportunity to make lots of friends and make rapid progress with their game.

The camps take place weekdays between 16th October – 3rd November, from 10.00am-4.00pm (tennis) or 8.30am-4.30pm (multi-sports). The daily cost is £29.95, with a discount available for booking a week. You can book via their website.

Collis Activity Camp

For children in Reception up to Year 8.

These camps are held at Collis School, Fairfax Road in Teddington. Children can participate in a wide range of  fun activities, including  assault courses, cooking, computing, bouncy castles, crazy golf, go carting, dodge ball, swimming, carnival plus lots more!

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, from 9.00am-5.00pm with the option to extend from 8.30am-6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £35.00, with a discount available for booking a week. You can book via their website.

Dramacube Productions

For children aged 7 to 14 years.

These two-day workshops take place at the United Reformed Church  and Hampton Hill Theatre, High Street in Hampton Hill. Children will enjoy a thrilling three-day musical theatre workshop production inspired by scary songs, spooky tales and creepy dance routines from stage and screen. Participating in acting, singing and dance, they will work towards a performance under the lights on day three.

Fit For Sport

For children aged 4 to 12 years.

These camps takes place at Orleans Primary School, Hartington Road in Twickenham, Barnes Primary School, Cross Street in Barnes, Sheen Mount Primary School in West Temple Sheen, and Meadlands Primary School, Broughton Avenue in Ham. They are a great way for children to keep active, have fun, make new friends, try something new and take part in a whole range of activities and sports.

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, from 9.30am-4.30pm with the option to extend from 8.30am-5.30pm (Twickenham / East Sheen / Ham) or 8.00am-6.00pm (Barnes), with a half day option for younger children from 9.30am-1.00pm. The basic daily cost is £22.00-£32.00 (£16.50-£24.00 for a half-day), depending on location. You can book via their website.

KidsCoach

For children in Reception up to Year 8.

These camps take place at Marble Hill Park in Twickenham. They are the perfect way for children to get out into the fresh air for some football fun, and will take place whatever the weather (dress the kids accordingly!). The sessions are split according to age, with lots of match time and skill-based games and drills.

KOOSA Kids

For children aged 4 to 13 years.

These camps take place at Orleans Park School, Richmond Road in Twickenham; Teddington Sports Centre, Broom Road in Teddington; Whitton Sports Centre, Percy Road in Whitton; and Shene Sports Centre, Park Avenue in East Sheen. This half-term the children will enjoy friendly spooktacular fun – playing Monster Football, The Floor is Lava, making Wool Skeletons or Slippery Slime and going dressed up as their favourite Spooky Character on Fantastic Friday!.

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, from 10.00am-4.00pm, with the option to extend from 8.15am-6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £20.00, with a discount available for booking the whole week. If you have three children, the 3rd child goes absolutely free! Lions Sports Academy

For boys and girls aged 6 to 14 years.

These camps take place at Teddington Rugby Club. Children will enjoy rugby coaching led by professionals with a friendly and personal approach, who will also cover subjects such as speed decision making, technical & tactical skills, basic nutrition principles, and confidence.

The camps take place between 23rd – 25th October, from 9.00am-4.00pm. The camps cost £42.00 per day or £114.00 for all three days. You can book online, or for more information email info@lionssports.academy.

The Little Gym Chiswick

For children aged 3 to 12 years.

These camps take place at The Little Gym, Hartington Road in Chiswick (just off the A316). They include super quest camps for 3-8yrs, full of exciting creative missions that will exercise muscle, imaginations and cooperation skills; fun skill thrill camps for 5-12yrs that will take your child’s gymnastic skills to the next level; as well as dance camps (3-12yrs) and karate camps (4-12yrs).

The camps take place Mondays to Thursdays between 16th – 26th October, from 9.30am-12.30pm or 1.30-4.30pm, with the option to extend to include lunch, or to stay for the whole day. The basic 3hr cost is £48.00 for non-members, or £42.00 for members. To book, call 020 8994 3729.

Mad Science

For children aged 4 to 11 years.

These camps take place at Chiswick Community School, Burlington Lane in Chiswick (just off the A316). Children will explore a different topic each day, with unique hands-on activities and amazing demos by skilled trained instructors – the perfect way to awaken children’s interest in the wonder and magic of science, sparking their imaginations and having fun at the same time.

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, from 10.00am-3.00pm. The cost is £36.00 per day, with discounts available for groups or for booking the whole week. You can book via the Mad Science website, or by calling 020 3031 6900.

Mampara Dance

For children aged 6 to 15 years.

These camps take place at St Osmond’s Hall, Castelnau in Barnes. Camps combine dance and cheerleading with roles and activities to suit every level of fitness and physique, from stunts to tumbling to dance. They’re a fantastic way to develop self confidence, discipline, creative thinking, team work, positivity, musicality, coordination, strength and so much more.

Marble Hill Playcentres

For children aged 3 to 11 years.

These camps take place at Marble Hill Playcentres, Richmond Road in Twickenham. Children will explore the Playground with the support of experienced playworkers – going on adventures, building fires, being creative, getting messy, playing and having lots of fun.

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, from 10.00am-2.00pm. The cost is £20.00 per day. You can book via Booking Bug.

Mother Nature Science

For children aged 5 to 12 years old.

These camps take place at Kings House School, King’s Road in Richmond. Children will enjoy spooky Halloween-themed science activities including a great mixture of exciting demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team games and fun quizzes.

The camps take place between 23rd – 26th October, from 9.00am-3.30pm, with the option to extend from 8.30am-4.00pm. The basic daily cost is £60.00, or £195.00 for all three days (limited availability for daily places). You can book online or by calling 020 8863 8832.

Orleans House Gallery

For children aged 4 to 7+ years.

These workshops take place at Orleans House Gallery, Riverside in Twickenham. They offer a range of full and half day workshops, working with different artists.

The workshops take place between 23rd – 26th October, with full day workshops from 10.00am-3.00pm and short workshops from 10.00am-12.00pm or 2.00-4.00pm. The cost for a full day workshop is £31.00 and a short workshop is £13.50. You can book online.

Playball

For children aged 3 to 9 years.

These camps take place at the Olympus Gym & Squash Club, Kew Foot Road in Richmond. They are filled with fantastic age-specific sports games, skills and drills, including wildly creative warm ups, sport skill sessions, team building activities and games.

The camps take place on the 23rd & 24th October, from 10.00am-1.00pm. The daily cost is £25.00, with siblings costing £15.00. You can book via their website.

Scamps Holiday Club

For children aged 3 to 12 years.

These camps take place at Scamps, Strathmore Road in Teddington. They offer a fun filled experience, with activities changed daily with over 200 different ideas, games and experiences which are guaranteed to keep your children amused, stimulated and happy all day long.

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, with five differently timed sessions available between the hours of 8.00am-6.00pm. The basic cost ranges from £23.00 to £37.00, depending on the length of the session, with various discounts available. You can download a booking form from their website.

Sheen Parks Tennis

For children aged 5 to 15 years.

These camps take place at Palewell Common and Sheen Common in East Sheen; Westerly Ware by Kew Green; and Cambridge Gardens, Clevedon Road in East Twickenham. These fun packed holiday camps are for children of all abilities to help develop essential tennis skills.

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, with different timings depending on location. Tots camps (3/4yrs) are 30-45 minutes long, whereas camps for older children range from 2-6 hours. The camps cost between £6.50-£54.00 per day depending on the length of the camp, with a discount available for booking the whole week. You can book online.

Springboard Swimmers

For children aged 3 to 7 years.

These intensive courses take place at Stanley School, Strathmore Road in Teddington, where there is a learner pool of constant 1m depth. They are aimed at non-swimmers and beginners; children needing stroke improvement. If you haven’t done a holiday intensive course before, you will be amazed at how much progress is made in one week!

The intensive courses take place between 23rd – 27th October, with a half-hour slot at the same time each day, with the same tutor and the same group of three children. Stagecoach

For children aged 4 to 6 years.

This five-day workshop takes place at Stanley Junior School, Strathmore Road in Teddington. Children will dance,sing, act and maybe even create a spell or two, bringing friendly playful ghosts and wonderful witches to the stage and creating a spooky, sensational show for the last day.

The five-day workshop takes place between 23rd – 27th October, from 9.30am-1.30pm (12.45-1.30pm on the final day). The workshop costs £135.00. You can book online.

Storytelling Adventures

For children aged 2 to 6 years.

These camps take place at The Cabbage Patch, London Road in Twickenham. In ‘How To Train You Unicorn’, children will go on an adventure through stories using storytelling, dance and song; will develop their creativity through arts & crafts and confidence through drama games and exercises (drop-off preferred but adults can stay with younger children).

The camps takes place between 23rd – 27th October, from 9.30am-12.00pm. The daily cost is £45.00, or the whole week costs £150.00. You can book online.

Thames Young Mariners Adventure Zone

For children from 5 to 16 years.

These camps take place at Thames Young Mariners, Riverside Drive in Ham. There are a variety of camps to choose from, including sailing, Little Foxes first school, young explorers, multi-activity and a climbing introduction.

The camps take place between 23rd – 27th October, from 9.30am-4.30pm. The cost ranges from £42.50 per day for forest school / young explorers, to £260.00 for a five-day sailing course. You can book book online.

 

White Rabbit Drama Club

For children aged 5 to 8 years.

This three-day club takes place at St Mary’s Church Hall, Church Street in Twickenham. Have you ever ballet danced with a Werewolf or bumped into the Invisible Man at the bus stop? Children will be meeting a host of spooky characters in silly locations at these innovative workshops in character and scene creation. Imaginations will be given the chance to soar in a safe and supportive environment, there will be the opportunity to get arty in the Halloween-themed craft corner, and lots of silly fun to be had!

Wild Education

For children aged 5 to 11 years.

This two-day camps takes place on Barnes Common (meet at the Vine Road Recreation Ground car park). Children will have a ‘wild’ time having fun, making new friends, learning life skills and being out in the fresh air getting muddy!

The two-day camp takes place on the 26th & 27th October, from 10.00am-2.00pm. The cost is £60.00 for both days. You can book via their website.

YMCA Hawker Play Schemes

For children aged 4 to 11 years.

These play schemes takes place at YMCA Hawker, Lower Ham Road (junction with Richmond Road) in Kingston. Children 4-8yrs will have lots of fun both indoors and outdoors as well as enjoying trips to the park, walks along the river and playing in the soft play facilities. Children 7-11yrs can enjoy ‘Wild Play Days’ – exploring woods, building shelters, discovering nature, creating woodland art and breathing Mother Nature’s good stuff!

The standard play scheme takes place between 23rd – 27th October, from 8.30am-6.00pm. The daily cost is £30.00, with Wednesday (trip day) costing £40.00. Wild Play Days take place between 23rd – 25th October, from 8.30am-4.30pm with the option to extend to 6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £30.00. You can book by calling 020 8296 9747.

York House Gardens Tennis

For children aged 5 to 12 years.

This five-day camp takes place at York House Gardens, Sion Road in Twickenham. Children will take part in various games and training to improve their agility, balance and coordination. Older age groups begin to focus more on shots, technique and tactics using game play and competition (suitable for all abilities).

The five-day camp takes place between 23rd – 27th October with different time slots for different age groups: 5-8yrs 10.00am-12.00pm; 9-12yrs 1.00-3.00pm. The cost is £120.00 for all five days.
