October Half Term Halloween

Almost half-term already… how did that happen?! If you’re looking for ways to entertain the kids, we’ve pulled together a listing of holiday camps and activities that are going on in the area. The listing is divided into half-term activities that you generally do together as a family, and drop-off camps and workshops which range from a couple of hours to a full day. We’re still in the process of adding things as and when we hear about them, so if you know of any more please do get in touch and let us know. FAMILY ACTIVITIES

 

Ham House

1st October to 3rd November, 10.00am-5.00pm: Autumn Animal Trail & Workshops at Ham House. In the gardens, the animals are gathering in their harvests to help them prepare for winter. Can you help them find their food? Join in this tactile trail to match up the animals with their favourite foods. Suitable for all ages with sensory elements for younger ones while older children learn how they can help British wildlife prepare for winter. Normal admission applies, plus trails are £2.00 each. 26th October to 3rd November: Autumn Animal Workshops: Create a bird feeder to help wildlife around you prepare for the winter with a guided workshop at 12.00pm, 1.00pm and 2.00pm each day (subject to availability). Workshops are £3.00 per child. During half-term week there is also Spooky Storytelling in the back parlour at 12.30pm, 1.30pm and 2:30pm, and Family Ghost Tours in the evening, suitable for 7+yrs (£15.00 per person).

Hampton Court Palace

26th October to 3rd November, 11.00am-4.00pm: Elizabeth I & Her Spymasters at Hampton Court Palace in East Molesey. Become a spy master for Queen Elizabeth! Elizabeth I’s court has become a dangerous place and the Queen is not sure who to trust. Become a spy, meet the suspects in her court and listen in on secret conversations. Can you help the queen to keep an eye on her wayward courtiers? Collect your special spy masters character card from the Information Centre with details of all the activities. Drop in activities throughout the day; included in normal admission.  There will also be performances on the life of Elizabeth I by Rose Theatre Kingston’s Young Company from Monday to Friday.

Kew Gardens

19th October to 3rd November, 10.30am-3.30pm: Autumn Antics at Kew Gardens. An array of fun-filled workshops, performances and storytelling this autumn half term. There is plenty for families to enjoy. Discover the fascinating tales, legends and people behind plant names in a programme of storytelling with storyteller Rachel Rose Reid. Kids will have the chance to get on stage with the School of Comedy and learn how to entertain a crowd, improvisation techniques and tips on how to write hilarious jokes. They can delve into the world of fungi names through interactive sessions and follow specially made trails to find fungi in the Gardens. Normal admission applies. London Museum Of Water And Steam

19th to 27th October, 10.00am-4.00pm: Spooky Cats at the London Museum Of Water & Steam, Green Dragon Lane in Brentford. Join the Museum this Halloween for a spooky kitty time. Many years ago, eight mysterious cats lived at the Steam Museum, playing with the waterworks employees. Listen to a cat story every weekday at 11.00am, make your own cat craft, explore the Splash Cat trail, and find the Museum’s hidden cats. Normal entry fees apply. Plus KIDS GO FREE and adults only £10.00 with Twick Mums! (See our membership page for details.) Children in Halloween costume also go FREE all week.

London Wetland Centre

19th October to 3rd November, 10.30am-3.00pm: Wildlife Researchers at the London Wetland Centre, Queen Elizabeth’s Walk in Barnes. Help the experts by researching the wildlife that lives on site. Use your log book to guide you to the best spots to search for seasonal wildlife, or join in other activities… Pond Dipping: search for the animals that live beneath the surface of our ponds (10.30am & 2.00pm). Migration Watch: gaze through a pair of binoculars to help find some winter visitors – you’ll be amazed by how some of these birds get to our wetlands (1.00pm). Wild Play: Make your own Leaf Hero and watch them soar to the ground in their handmade leaf parachute (11.15am & 2.45pm). Normal admission applies.

Osterley Park

19th to 27th October, 11.00am-4.00pm: Halloween Pumpkin Festival at Osterley Park & House, Jersey Road in Isleworth. Follow the trail and carve your own pumpkin to take home. Discover how the animals of Osterley get ready for winter, and carve your own pumpkin to take home. Follow the trail and complete the activities to find the pumpkins. Along the way take a break to toast some marshmallows and enjoy a hot drink from the trailer. Normal admission charges apply plus trail costs £4.00 (includes pumpkin).

Squires Garden Centre

28th to 1st October, 10.00am-4.00pm: ‘Create & Grow’ Spooky Half-Term at Squires Garden Centre, Sixth Cross Road in Twickenham. Paint a ceramic bat tealight holder – take home with a complimentary LED tealight to place on your windowsill to brighten up your room (£5.75). Create a Halloween Scratch Art Mask – a must have item for trick-or-treating (£2.00). Ghost pursuit around the centre – discover the creepy word and be in with a chance to win a prize – free. Fancy dress is welcome! No booking required. Drop-in events, while stocks last.

Best Tennis

For children aged 3 to 14 years.

These camps take place at Old Deer Park Tennis Courts, Pools On The Park, Twickenham Road in Richmond. They offer fun packed tennis camps with a combination of technical learning, matchplay and games. Player to coach ratios are always kept low.

The camps take place weekdays between 28th October – 1st November, from 11.00-11.45am for 3-5yrs; 9.00-11.00am for 5-8yrs; or 12.00–3.00pm for 9-14yrs. The camps cost £12.00 per day for 3-5yrs, or £25.00 per day for 5-8yrs, or £30.00 per day for 9-14yrs, with a discount available for booking the whole week. You can book via their website.

Boundless Dance

For children aged 4.5 to 16 years.

These ‘Musical Madness’ workshops take place at Teddington Methodist Church, Stanley Road in Teddington. The workshops are fun-filled and cater for all abilities. They focus on developing your child’s aptitude in the three main genres of performance – acting, dancing and singing – and are run by professional west-end practitioners.

The workshops take place between 29th – 31st October, from 10.00am-2.00pm with the option to extend from 9.00am-4.00pm. The cost for one day is £20.00, or  it costs £37.50 for two days or £50.00 for all three days. There is a registration form online.

Camp England

For children from 5 to 15 years old.

These camps are held at The German School, Petersham Road in Richmond, NPL Tennis Club, Queens Road in Teddington and at Hampton School, Hanworth Road in Hampton. At Teddington, children can choose from tennis or multi-sports camps with lots of activities to choose from, and at Richmond they can choose gymnastics or multi-sports. At Hampton, there are tennis camps to give children the opportunity to make lots of friends and make rapid progress with their game.

The camps take place weekdays between 28th October – 1st November (Hampton) and 21st October – 1st November (Richmond & Teddington), from 10.00am-4.00pm (tennis & gymnastics) or 8.30am-4.30pm (multi-sports). The daily cost is £32.95, with a discount available for booking a week. You can book via their website.

Collis Activity Camp

For children in Reception up to Year 8.

These camps are held at Collis School, Fairfax Road in Teddington. Children can participate in a wide range of  fun activities, such as bouncy castles, go-karts, art, computing, crazy golf, dodge ball, swimming, carnival day, bumper boats, circus skills, Wii dance, bingo, plus lots, lots more!

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.00am-5.00pm with the option to extend from 8.30am-6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £38.00, with a discount available for booking a week. You can book via their website.

Elizabeth Samuels Drama

For children aged 4 to 14 years.

These ‘shows in a week’ take place at Orleans Park Secondary School, Richmond Road in Twickenham. Children aged 4-11yrs will rehearse and perform The Jungle Book, whilst children aged 11-14yrs will rehearse and perform Sherlock Holmes. Both shows use original scripts which provide every child with a role and the chance to shine on stage.

The ‘shows in a week’ take place from 28th October – 1st November (4-11yrs) or 29th October – 2nd November (11-14yrs), from 9.00am-3.30pm and for an evening performance on the final day. The cost for all five days is £165.00. You can book online.

Happy Potter

For children aged 6+ years

These workshops and halloween party take place at Happy Potter, Broad Street in Teddington. Children will enjoy spooky creative activities including hanging bat decorations, pompom monsters, halloween headbands, and paper cat hats, with different creative activities taking place on different days and a halloween party on the 31st.

The workshops take place on 28th October – 1st November, from 10.30am-12.00pm except the party on the 31st which is from 3.30-5.00pm. The cost is £20.00 per child including lunch. You can book online.

KidsCoach

For children in Reception up to Year 8.

These camps take place at Marble Hill Park in Twickenham. They are the perfect way for children to get out into the fresh air for some football fun, and will take place whatever the weather (dress the kids accordingly!). The sessions are split according to age, with lots of match time and skill-based games and drills.

KOOSA Kids

For children aged 4 to 13 years.

These camps take place at Orleans Park School, Richmond Road in Twickenham; Teddington Sports Centre, Broom Road in Teddington; Whitton Sports Centre, Percy Road in Whitton; St Mary’s Primary School in Hampton; and Shene Sports Centre, Park Avenue in East Sheen. Children will enjoy witches cauldrons, paper pumpkins, potion painting, haunted hot wheels and much more in a week full of Spooktacular Fun.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 10.00am-4.00pm, with the option to extend from 8.15am-6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £21.50, with a discount available for booking the whole week. If you have three children, the 3rd child goes absolutely free! Landmark Arts Centre

For children aged 8 to 14 years.

This workshop take place at the Landmark Arts Centre, Ferry Road in Teddington. Using drawing, pattern design, repeat printing and oil pastel techniques, children will create a colourful kaleidoscope artwork on canvas., led by the fantastic Ace Art.

Lions Sports Academy

For boys and girls aged 6 to 8 years.

This camp takes place at Teddington Rugby Club in Bushy Park. If your child has never played rugby before, or they’re pushing an academy place, this camp will help children develop whilst giving them a fun and active experience.

The camp takes place on the 1st November from 9.00am-3.00pm and costs £30.00. You can book online.

The Little Gym Chiswick

For children aged 3 to 12 years.

These camps take place at The Little Gym, Hartington Road in Chiswick (just off the A316). They include super quest camps for 3-8yrs, full of exciting creative missions that will exercise muscle, imaginations and cooperation skills; fun skill thrill camps for 6-12yrs that will take your child’s gymnastic skills to the next level; as well as dance camps (3-12yrs) and karate camps (4-12yrs). There is a halloween party camp on the 31st.

The camps take place between 21st – 31st October, from 9.00am-12.00pm/9.30am-12.30pm or 1.30-4.30pm, with the option to extend to include lunch or to stay for the whole day during the first week. The halloween party camp is from 12.00-3.00pm. The basic 3hr cost is £48.00 for non-members, or £42.00 for members. To book, call 020 8994 3729.

The Little Gym Hampton & Teddington

For children aged 3 to 12 years.

These camps take place at The Little Gym, High Street in Hampton Hill. They include super quest camps for 3-8yrs, full of exciting creative missions that will exercise muscle, imaginations and cooperation skills; and fun skill thrill camps for 5-12yrs that will take your child’s gymnastic skills to the next level.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.30am-12.30pm (3-8yrs) and from 1.30-4.30pm (5-12yrs), with the option to extend to include lunch, or to stay for the whole day. The cost is £36.00 for non-members or £32.00 for members. To book, call 020 8977 0099.

Little Star Writing

For children aged 7 to 11 years.

These writing retreats take place at St Mary’s University, Waldegrave Road in Twickenham. They are for all aspiring authors and reluctant writers, and include a variety of writing games, worksheets, challenges, group-work, presentations, plus lots of fun and laughter.

The workshops take place on 31st October, from 1.30-4.30pm. The cost is £30.00 per student. You can find out more or book via their website.

Mini Explorers Club

For children from 3 to 5 years.

These camps take place at Marble Hill Park, Richmond Road in Twickenham. Children will have their imaginations engaged in the great outdoors, with adventures enhanced by games, stories, crafts, dressing up and other portable play elements to maximise the fun.

The camps take place on 31st October from 12.30-2.30pm and 1st November from 10.30am-12.30pm. You can book via their website.

Mother Nature Science

For children aged 5 to 12 years old.

These camps take place at The Queen’s School, Cumberland Road in Kew. Children will enjoy five days of spooky Halloween-themed activities, including a great mixture of exciting demonstrations, hands-on experiments, team games and fun quizzes across chemistry, biology and physics. Over the week your child will do 30+ science activities and demonstrations.

The camps take place between 21st October – 1st November, from 9.00am-3.30pm, with the option to extend from 8.30am-4.00pm. The basic daily cost is £70.00, or £285.00 for the week (limited availability for daily places). You can book online or by calling 020 8863 8832.

Scamps Holiday Club

For children aged 3 to 12 years.

These camps take place at Scamps, Strathmore Road in Teddington. They offer a fun filled experience, with activities changed daily with over 200 different ideas, games and experiences which are guaranteed to keep your children amused, stimulated and happy all day long.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, with four differently timed sessions available between the hours of 7.30am-6.00pm. The basic cost ranges from £27.00 to £40.00, depending on the length of the session, with various discounts available. You can download a booking form from their website.

Sheen Parks Tennis

For children aged 3 to 14 years.

These three=day camps take place at Sheen Common in East Sheen; Westerly Ware, off Kew Green, and at Cambridge Gardens, Clevedon Road in East Twickenham. These fun packed holiday camps are for children of all abilities to help develop essential tennis skills.

The camps take place over three days between 28th October – 1st November, with half hour sessions for 3-4yrs, and 3hr sessions for 5-14yrs. Tots camps cost £27.00 for all three days, mini/junior camps cost £91.50 for all three days. You can book online.

Springboard Swimmers

For children aged 3 to 7 years.

These intensive courses take place at Stanley School, Strathmore Road in Teddington; and at St Richard’s School, Woodville Road in Richmond. They are aimed at non-swimmers and beginners; children needing stroke improvement. If you haven’t done a holiday intensive course before, you will be amazed at how much progress is made in one week.

The intensive courses take place between 28th October – 1st November, with a half-hour slot at the same time each day, with the same tutor and the same group of three children. SuperCamps

For children aged 4 to 12 years.

These camps take place at The Green School, London Road in Isleworth. Children will enjoy multi-activity camps with an abundance of sports, arts & crfats, games and fun activities inside and out, split by age group..

These camps take place between 21st – 28th October, from 9.00am-5.00pm with the option to extend from 8.00am-6.00pm. They cost £45.00 per day, with a discount available for booking the whole week. You can book online.

Thames Young Mariners Adventure Zone

For children from 6 to 16 years.

These camps take place at Thames Young Mariners, Riverside Drive in Ham. There are Young Explorers camps for 6/7yrs focussing on different team challenges through the week, and Multi-Activity camps for 8-13yrs (split into juniors and seniors), with activities such as archery, climbing, team tasks and woodland skills. Sailing, paddleboarding, canoeing and kayaking courses are also available.

The camps take place between 28th October – 1st November, from 9.30am-4.30pm. The Young Explorers camps are £47.00 per day; the Multi-Activity camps are £94.00 for two days or £141.00 for three days (see online for other prices). You can book online.

White Rabbit Drama Club

For children aged 5 to 9 years.

This three-day workshop takes place at Holy Trinity Church Hall, Vicarage Road in Twickenham. Children will be searching the world for tales of magnificent mythical creatures! Whether it’s Unicorns, Monsters, Elves or Giants that spark their imagination, they will be transported to a world of new beginnings, adventure and hope as they explore stories in a fun and playful way. They will also be moulding and decorating new creatures from clay, learning to print with symbols of Ashanti folklore and exploring a range of art activities inspired by myths and legends from around the world.

YMCA Hawker Wild Play Days

For children aged 4 to 11 years.

These play days takes place at YMCA Hawker, Lower Ham Road (junction with Richmond Road) in Kingston. Younger children 4-7yrs will build shelters, discover nature, create woodland art and breathe Mother Nature’s good stuff, whilst being based out of the YMCA’s new teepee. Older children 7-11yrs will visit a different location each day to explore woods, and enjoy the freedom of outdoor play.

The play days take place between 28th – 31st October, from 8.30am-4.30pm with the option to extend to 6.00pm. The basic daily cost is £30.00, with Wednesday (trip day) costing £40.00. You can book online.
