Match Up Mums friends

Match Up Mums LogoMatch Up Mums is a great new service that matches mums into friendship groups with like-minded mums or mums-to-be in their local area. The website uses a clever profile-matching system to put together friendship groups based on postcode, due date or age of child, attitudes, hobbies, interests, and more. It was set up by mum-of-three, Megan, who saw the value of applying the same technology that dating services use to friendship groups, to provide new mothers with a support network of like-minded friends whilst making their experience of early motherhood a lot of fun at the same time.

Members complete a questionnaire and then the matching system sets to work. Once a group is formed it is introduced via email with a summary of what everyone has in common and why they were all matched up together. Match Up Mums facilitates the first meeting, finding a mutually convenient date and venue (always in a public place such as a cafe or park), and making any bookings if necessary. The meetings are very relaxed and casual, and not as daunting as they may sound! Everyone is in the same boat, have lots in common already, and Match Up Mums even provides a pack of ice-breaker activities in case the conversation needs a boost.

Members pay a small joining fee, and then different levels of membership give you access to different sized profile-matched groups. Bronze membership gives access to member profiling, newsletters and discounts, Silver membership also includes a group of up to three mum-friends, and Gold membership – currently just a one-off fee of £25 – a group of up to six mum-friends. The discounts available to all members include fantastic deals from partners such as JoJo Maman Bébé, Neighbourhood Midwives, Night Nannies and the London Mothers Club.

Match Up Mums launched earlier this summer in Clapham and has quickly spread across SW London – they have already matched up more than 25 groups of mum-friends, with new groups being put together daily and some fantastic feedback from members which shows how well it works.
