Dramacube Wizard Of Oz

West End to Wizard of Oz!

With five Swan Award nominations, the announcement of a fantastic Christmas show and a West End debut, it has been an exciting month at Dramacube!

Dramacube Productions Swan AwardsIt was this time last year that Dramacube students scooped awards for Best Boy Performer Aged 14 & Under and Best Girl Performer Aged 14 & Under, so to receive an incredible five nominations again is another great achievement for all involved. The award ceremony, presented by television personality Sally Phillips, will be hosted by the Landmark Arts Centre in Teddington later this month. We wish all nominees the best of luck!

Earlier that day they will be holding auditions for the Dramacube Christmas show, The Wizard of Oz (YPE). This beloved tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow, has been entertaining audiences for generations. With all the classic songs such as  ‘Over the Rainbow’, ‘If Only I Had a Brain’ and ‘We’re Off To See the Wizard (Follow the Yellow Brick Road)’, this magical musical will bring as much joy to the parents watching as it will to the young performers.

Artistic Directors, Matthew Bunn and Stephen Leslie, will head up the production, supported by Choreographer K’ja Young-Thomas and Musical Theatre Teacher Dani Bond. The Wizard of Oz will be staged at the impressive Hampton Hill Theatre at Christmas.

Auditions will be held on Sunday 15th September at St. Mary’s University in Twickenham from 11.00am-1.30pm and from 2.30-5.00pm. Auditions are run in workshop format and are great fun for all involved. Participants will learn a song from the show and work on short scenes and movement in small groups.

The Wizard of Oz goes into weekly rehearsal from late September, with technical, dress rehearsal and performances, w/c Monday 16th December. Dramacube looks forward to seeing you there!

Dramacube Productions Finally huge congratulations to Dramacube student, Jack Reynolds, who has landed a West End role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s smash hit musical School of Rock. From Dramacube to the West End in less than six months, now that’s an achievement!
